About the Program

The Mapping and Cadastre Program within the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Gölhisar Vocational School started its associate degree education in the 2017-2018 academic year. The program, which has given approximately 250 graduates so far, employs 3 faculty members who are experts in their field. The program, which has a total of 160 students, has 66 female and 94 male students. There is a Double Major Program (ÇAP) opportunity between the Mapping and Cadastre program and the Land Registry and Cadastre program. Successful students can graduate from both programs in two years.

Education and Practice

The Mapping and Cadastre Program trains qualified technicians who produce the maps needed by our country and carry out the studies and applications of land projects. Our students specialize in the production of maps that provide the infrastructure for engineering services, in areas such as urban and zoning planning, parcel planning, cadastre, and topographic maps. They also play an active role in engineering projects such as highways, railways, irrigation, and tunnels.

Our program teaches students to closely follow modern technology and to calculate and draw land information in a computer environment using electronic measuring instruments. The use of advanced technology positioning devices such as GNNS is also an important part of our curriculum. In the trial areas in the campus development area of our university, our students turn their theoretical knowledge into practice and gain professional experience with summer internship studies.

Laboratory and Equipment

The Mapping and Cadastre Program has a modern computer laboratory with a capacity of 30 people. All necessary information devices and software for the courses are available. Our laboratory provides an ideal environment for practical training, and our department continuously updates computers and information devices. The equipment available in the program for field applications includes:

·4 levels and their tripods

·2 total stations and their equipment

·1 GNSS device

Our students are provided with a free license by NETCAD every year, which they can use at any place and time they wish. In addition, certified main module training is periodically provided by NETCAD.

Career Opportunities

The Mapping and Cadastre Program aims to train technical personnel who bridge the gap between engineers and technicians in the mapping sector. Our graduates have extensive job opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

In the public sector; they can work in institutions such as the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, municipalities, provincial special administrations, General Directorate of Highways, and Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization.

In the private sector, they have job opportunities in mapping offices, licensed mapping and cadastre offices, construction companies, and SPK licensed appraisal companies.

Program Objective

Our Mapping and Cadastre Program provides education and training to produce maps with various features used as a base in the preparation of all kinds of infrastructure projects and to meet the direct need for intermediate, trained, and qualified personnel required by the mapping profession. In this context, it is aimed that students are ready to practice their profession after graduation.

Education

  • Our education period within the scope of the associate degree is 2(two) years and consists of 4(four) semesters. Most of the 14-week semester and a total of 56-week education is carried out as practical work either in the field or through relevant programs. Each of our students must complete a Mandatory Internship Work consisting of 30 working days.
  • Those who will apply to the mapping cadastre program must be physically fit to participate in fieldwork, drawing, calculation, and application activities.
  • Our school has the latest technology measuring instruments for students to carry out field applications related to the profession.

Job Potential for Our Graduates

Our department graduates work in private sector and public institutions as «Map Technician».

Graduates are capable of performing tasks that can assist in the plans and land applications created by the map cadastre engineer.

Map cadastre technicians can be appointed to all public institutions through KPSS or direct appointment. Additionally, job opportunities are more abundant in private organizations.

In our country, there will be a need for trained, skilled, and practical personnel in the fields of map cadastre in the future.

In conclusion, there is a need for a Cartographer in all professions dealing with land.
