Turkey's Studies in Antarctica and the First Antarctic Expedition (TAE-I) Evaluated at the Online Conference

On Monday, March 27, 2023, at 14:00, online (çevrimiçi) as Hitit University Osmancık Ömer Derindere Vocational School Director Dr. Öğretim Üyesi M. Nurullah ALKAN conducted a conference titled “Turkey’s Activities in Antarctica – I. Antarctic Expedition (TAE-I)”. Faculty members and students from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, Land Registry and Cadastre Program attended the conference.

Participating in the I. Turkish Antarctic Expedition (TAE-I), organized under the auspices of the Presidency and coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology since 2017, Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Mehmet Nurullah ALKAN provided information about the countries with bases in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, including Turkey, in these conferences; he conveyed numerous topics to the students, such as what kind of scientific studies are conducted at these research bases, the future of these studies, and the legal status of Antarctica. Being one of the scientists who participated in the first expedition, ALKAN also shared what kind of field studies he participated in during the temporary base activities in the region, and during his presentation, he shared many photos and videos he recorded in the region, showing the condition of the area, transportation and communication facilities, and daily living conditions in Antarctica.

After the conference, which was listened to with interest, Department of Architecture and Urban Planning faculty member Öğr. Gör. Zafer KÖSE thanked the speaker Dr. Öğretim Üyesi M. Nurullah ALKAN for his presentation.
